MPO Maps
Transportation Vision, Goals, and Principles
Serve all transportation users by planning, implementing, and maintaining a transportation system that coordinates land use and transportation planning, and promotes a sustainable natural and built environment, robust economy, and equitable mobility opportunities.
The purpose of mobility zones is to encourage a mix of land uses and interconnectivity that allows residents to take shorter trips thereby reducing traveling distance and energy used. Increasing the number of shorter trips also increases the opportunity to substitute walking or biking which in turn would further reduce energy use.
Transportation Projects Priorities Plan
This Plan indicates what transportation projects, including major thoroughfares, intersections, and interchanges, should be improved or built over the next 5 years.
Functional Classification and Thoroughfare Plan
The Functional Classification and Thoroughfare Plan guides roadway development over a 20-year horizon in the MPO area. This Plan indicates future roadway alignments, exiting and proposed roadway functional classifications, and associated MPO policies.
Bicycle Facilities Priorities Plan
The Bicycle Facilities Priorities Plan helps guide in-road bicycle lane and shared use lane development. This Plan categorizes roadways into two tiers: TIER I (red lines) creates a complete network. TIER II (blue lines) builds on to the initial network and creates a more complete system.
The Trail System Plan will help guide off-road trail development. Tier I trail links would provide a basic network throughout the region. Key links include extensions of the Rio Grande trail, the Outfall Channel, and the Acequia Madre. Tier II trail links would provide secondary connections or long-term extensions of Tier I Trails.
Public Transportation Priorities Plan
This Plan presents a concept where sub-areas would be served by smaller circulator vehicles which would take people to transit centers. The transit centers, in turn, would be connected to each other via high capacity express vehicles.
Traffic Flow Maps provide valuable data for use in transportation planning. The traffic counts that are listed on the map show where traffic is concentrated and indicates where planning efforts may need to be focused in the future.
