Bicycle Friendly Communities in the Las Cruces Region
The MPO hosted Andy Clarke, Executive Director for the League of American Bicyclists, during July 23 and 24, 2007. Mr. Clarke gave 5 presentations over two days regarding what qualifies a city or region as being bicycle-friendly and how the Las Cruces area can reach that goal.
First, presentations were given before the governing boards of each MPO member jurisdiction: Las Cruces, Mesilla, and Doña Ana County. Then a technical presentation was made to a diverse group including planners, engineers, citizens, and an elected official. Finally, the bicycling community was presented with several tips to promote cycling through effective advocacy.
